In the land of the Antipodes their are many of the second and third generation who have taken apon themselves to learn to play traditional Pontian instruments.


 
STATHIS SELEMIDIS
 

Stathi was born in Melbourne Australia. He grew up listening to the sound of his Grandfather's lyra / Kemence. What makes his lyra complete is his magical voice. There is never a time that you wont want to dance when he is playing. He has made one official Album but thousands of other recording. His parents are from the Florina region of Greece, and ancestors from Trabzon and Macka.

  STAVROS SELEMIDIS  

Stavros was born in Melbourne Australia. He is the Younger brother of Stathis Selemidis. He mainly plays Percousion but also has started to sing lately and is taking lyra lessons from his brother. He has made one official Album but thousands of other recording. His parents are from the Florina region of Greece, and ancestors from Trabzon and Macka.

  LAMBIS "HARRY" PARHARIDIS  

Lambo or Harry as we call him was born in Melbourne Australia. Like his father (Christos Parharidis) and grandfather, Harry took up the Pontian lyra, but with time, and again thanks to his father he has also exeled in the Pontian Touloum and Gaval. His parents are from the Kozani "portoraz" and ancestors from Trabzon area of Macka.


  ALEKOS AKRIVOPOULOS  

Known as "Barbara Aleko" he is a legend in himself. He is mostly known for his crazy antics of playing the lyra behind his back or over his head and tumbeling whilst playing the touloum. He became a houshold name whilst playing on the radio in Thessaloniki with Gogo petridis. His greatest days were with the Dora Stratou dance group in Athens when it first started. He traveled the world and was also in a Melina Mekouri movie. He lived in Melbournefor many years but past away in Dec 2004.


  CHRISTOS SKENDERIDIS  

Born and raised in Naousa Greece he moved to Sydney Australia in 1996 were he became the lyrary for the local club in Sydney and still is today.


  STATHIS LONGINIDIS  

Father of STAN "THE MAN" LONGINIDIS he is a self taught player and was a key musician of the Pontian club "Pontiaki Estia" of Melbourne for many years (80's).


  ELLENIS ANASASIADIS  

The oldest daughter of Lambi, Eleni is showing all the signs of a rising star. Her voice not only creates a warm feeling inside but also enriches the words to the songs. She has a very destinkt "Pontian" style of singing.I should mention that she also is the niece of Chris and Alex Inziadis. She has currently one Album and made many apperances in greece with other big name acts.


  JACK XANTHOPOULOS  

Melbourne born Jack has been involved with music from a very young age. He is was one of the first pontian musician in Melbourne (born outside of Greece) he played Drums with many of Pontian Musician that came from Greece, then later he played the keyboards (as he still does today) He also plays lyra and sings (if you give him a few drinks).


  LAMBIS ANASTASIADIS  

Lambi is a renown Lyra player from Kilkis in Greece (that has since moved to Australia). He has made several albums including the famous "Apan so Mbeles". with singers such as Sophia Papadopoulou, Iakovidis and many more. He was the main lyra player for the club "Pontiaki Estia" during the 1990's before moving to the "Pontian Community" till today (and Euxinos Pontos club). His biggest success however has been his 3 daughters.


  PARTHENA ANASTASIADIS  

Like her sister and Father, Parthena is showing alot of talent and skill. Not only for her age but also being a female Ndaoulyi player. She is the second daughter of lambi Anastasiadi and the niece of Chris and Alex Inziadis.


  STATHIS SELEMIDIS  

Originaly from Greece the grandfather of Stavro and Stathi Selemidis is the "old school" of Lyra / Kemence players. He has also created many Lyres of his own. He is from the villages of Florina Greece but originated from the Macka region of Trabzon.


  ATHANASIOS NATSIKAS  

Thanasis was born in Sydney. Also known as a MAD Pontian, he took up playing Ndaouli to further more his love for Pontian music. A party is not complete without him stamping his feet!!!!


  GEORGE JASON KIRIAKIDIS (Morisoglou)  

George was born in Melbourne Australia. He first began playing the keyboards then slowly his intrest in music moved to the more traditional sound, and since has learnt to play Clarinet, Gaida (Makedonikia), Zourna(Serres - Naousa), Zilia and many percussion instruments such as the Ndefi, Ndaouly and the Toumberleki in which he exells. He currently plays with a rembetik bands in Melbourne with wich he has many recordings. his parents are from the Grevena and Florina region of Greece and ancestors from Samsounda.


  GEORGE SEVASTOPOULOS  

George was born in Melbourne Australia. Like his Grandfather, father and Brother he to has taken up the Pontian Lyra. Lately he has also moved onto the Greek Bazouki to widen his musical knowledge. After his trip to Greece in 2001 George has also taken up playing the Kemane (a 5 stringed violo-lyra). His father is from florina and mother from Crete.


  JOHN KARADIS  

Gianni was born in Melbourne and started to sing from the age of 15. From his humble beginings at the local Pontic club "Pontiaki Estia". With his Koumbaro Harry Parharidi he can make the night unforgettable. A very sweat and southing voice.


  JOHN "KIRA" KIRIAKIDIS  

John "Kira" Kiriakidis was born in Melbourne. He learnt to play lyra by himself. He played more for family functions with his cousine George Kiriakidis. He currently is the dance teacher of the Pontian Communities dance group. His parents are from Florina.


  JOHN KATAKALIDIS  

John was born in Melbourne, started playing the drums at school and soon moved onto playin the Ndaouli due to his love of Pontian dancing. He is another one of the next generation of pontian musicians.


  KOSTAKI ATHANASIADIS  

Another rising tallent in Melbourne. One of the smallest Ndouli players at times you cant see him behind it. Playing many times for the dance group of "Pontiaki Estia" in Melbourne at many concerts and outdoor events.


  THEODOROS KOSTIDIS  

Theo "Sheepskin" Kostidi came to Australia in 1990 and has since started playing the Ndouli. His inital role in the Pontian scene was that of a dance teacher of the "Pontiaki Estia" dance group. Nowdays you can find him dancing non-stop on the dance floor. He is from the village of "Pendavriso" in Kastoria but his ancestors are from Kerasunda (Giresun).


  ILIAS SEVASTOPOULOS  

Ilia was born in Melbourne Australia and is the older brother of George Sevastopoulo. Not only did he take his Grandfathers name, but also his love to play the Pontian Lyra. Ilia was the lyrary of the Pan-Pontian Community of Melbourne for many years. His father is from Florina and mother from Crete.


  CHRISTOS INZIADIS  

Australian born Chris is the older brother of Alex Inziadi (the singer). Chris learnt to play the lyra on his own and with the encouragment of his parents. His parents come from "Makrohori Verias" in Macedonia, Greece.


  ANTONIS ILLIOY  

Antony was born in Melbourne. His love for traditional music and dancing found him moving from playing the guitar to playing Ndaouli. He mainly plays laouto or toumberleki in a rembetiko band. His parents are from Kastoria Macedonia. Due to his dark skin you might pass him for a Tsingano!!


  ROB BESTER  

Born in Tasmani Rob has no Pontian blood in him at all, however he has been stung by a Gypsy bug and can pick up any instrument and play it without a problem. Rob has learnt from first hand musicians from all over the world (even Pontos). He plays has his own band called XENOS. He can play both Kemence and Toulum and his wife Ann can sing songs in the Pontian dialect.

  ALEX INZIADIS  

The younger brother of Chris Inziadis, he also has taken up singing from a young age.


  LAMBROS KAPPAS  

Lambro moved to Australia after a few years in Greece. His main intrest was Greek traditional music and dance. This made him take up the Outi and since has received lessons in Outi playing from the great Christos Balksidis. He accumpanied George Sevastopoulo and "Pontiaki Estias" dance group during some of their performances. The sound was great.


  ANTONIS SEVASTOPOULOS  

The father of George and Ilia Sevastopoulos. He was born in florina. His playing is of a very sweat, home style. He was at onece the lyrary for the old club of the "Pan-Pontian Community" in Melbourne. Like his children he was influenced by his father Ilia Sevastopoulo who also is a lyra / Kemence player.


  MAGDALINI SELEMIDIS  

The Mother of Stathi and Stavro Selemidis, she played a very big role in their encouragment and confidence in playing music. A great singer herself she helps them in song writing and singing. She can be heard on there CD. She moved to Australia from Florina, Macedonia.


  KIRIAKOS "ERIC" FOTIADIS  

The youngest and most promising lyrary of his age in Australia. He was born in Greece but has Grown up and lives in Sydney.


  ANASTASIOS ATHANASIADIS  

Tasso is another new lyra player and a very talented dancer of the "Pontiaki Estia" dance group of Melbourne. He started from the teachings of Lambi Parharidis and since has plaed at many after party "Mouhabetia".


  CHRISTOS PARHARIDIS  

The father of Harry and Stan. Born in Greece (Portoraz) He has also contributed greatly to the Pontian community of Melbourne. Playing for the first dance groups formed in the 1970's. Now he sings at mouhabetia only. He has made two recordings with son Lambro Parharidi.


  STEPHANOS ELEFTHERIADIS  

Steph was born in Melbourne Australia. His original instrument was the Piano Accordian but soon gave up to continue in the more traditional sounds of the Pontian lyra and Ndaouli. He also loves to dance. He has performed at several concerts and plays with the Creten and Macedonian organisations. Both his parents are from Apsalos in Macedonia. His ancestry is from Ordu and Amasia and Merzovan.


  GEORGE APOSTOLIDIS  

Apostolidi was born, and currently lives in Sydney. He once played for the dancing group of the local Pontian club, but ever since bullshit moved he moved on to better things. He now plays for a 55 dancer strong group called "Argonautes" preforming at major events in Sydney and the rest of Australia. His parents are from the Aridea region of Greece.


  ANASTASIOS LITHOKSOIDIS  

Tasso grew up in Australia and took it upon himself to learn lyra. He was the Lyra / Kemence player for the dance group of "Pontiaki Estia" of Melbourne for many years 80's - 90's and a key member of the organisation till today. His family is from the Florina region of Greece.


  ARIS TSILFIDIS  

Aris Tsilfidis was born in Melbourne. He has taken many lessons from Lambi Athanasiadi but since has undertaken his own stle of playing. He has also taken up the greatest tradition on lyra / kemence making as his father did before him (Christos Tsilfidis). he currently works hard in contuibuting to spreading the Pontian word on the world wide web.

  GIANNIS PILALIDIS  

Gianni moved to Australia in 1997. He played Ndaouli with Polihni dance group, which he taught as well. He moved to Australia and was the the teacher of "Pontiaki Kinotita", "Panagia Sumela" and "Pontiaki Estia" dance groups showing at many events and even travelled with the group back to Greece.
